Are you newly into homebrew? Unsure where to make the first steps? Which one to download? How to install? Never fear, this blog will tell you all the details that you need.
First of all, what is homebrew anyway? Well its a non official SONY support third party applications that mostly consist of emulators, loaders/launchers and etc. You need a chubby boxy Playstation 2 (PS2) console whether it is chipped or non-chipped. Why need such an old chubby boxy console? Because it has the Expansion Bay that slim PS2 console doesn't have. What does the network adapter can do for homebrew? Well, it can install 3rd party HDD (Hard Disk) up to 2 terabytes or 256 PS2 game titles and directly boot from the HDD it self without never ever use your precious console Lens *Ouch*. But there's some HDD compatiblity issue for the network adapter, not all are 100% supported. For more HDD compatibility, please read from PS2 HDD Compatility Chart.
How about slim PS2 console users? No worries, you can use the external USB thumb drive and external USB HDD to support homebrew. But the loading speed and games compatibility issue are much worse than chubby boxy Playstation 2 with Expansion Bay. For games compatibility info, you can read from SKS APPS - PS2 HDD Game Compatibily List and Absolute Anime - HD Loader Game Compatibility List. If you are a die-hardcore slim PS2 console users that insist to mod for better support of games compatibility, there's a product called HDCombo. Don't ask me where to get this, ask your local retailers or you can direct online purchase. About modding it...don't ask me. :)
Anyway, let's cut short. Prepare this necessary things for homebrew.
- Chubby PS2
- Expansion Bay/Network Adapter
- USB Thumb Drive
- PS2 Memory Card (preferably 32/64MB)
- Network CrossLink Cable
- A CD/DVD of PS2 Codebreaker (please don't ask me where to get this)
I'll post more whenever I'm free...
